8am Depart Te Akau ki Papamoa School (Promptly!)

9am Coffee Stop

10am Arrive at Mountview Primary in Taupo

12pm Leave Mountview for Lunch (By the Lake?)

1pm Arrive Waipahihi School

2pm Leave Waipahihi School

4pm Arrive back at Te Akau ki Papamoa School

Times at each school are flexible depending on our 'needs'.

Sarah and Kate from Mountview will be sharing a presentation with us that they prepared for the recent Sitech IWB Conference and guiding us through their Middle School classrooms.

Appreciating that it will be last thing on a Friday afternoon that we visit our second school, this will be less structured but we are able to go into all classrooms and teachers are aware of our 'focus'.

The needs of those attending will be discussed on the bus and times altered to suit. Our 'start' and 'finish' times are not flexi though!

This is a focussed school visit for Middle School teachers. We plan to.....

  • View classroom/school environments
  • Immerse ourselves in another school's culture and appreciate their visions and perspectives.
  • Reflect on our own teaching and learning practises
  • Experience the journey of others (thanks to teachers from these school's highlighting their personal journeys)
  • Be open to 'Aha' moments!

Mountview School is a full primary Years 0-8 with a roll ranging between 420 and 460. Our school has an ethnic composition of 75% Maori, 20% European and 5 % Pacific Island/Asian/South African. We have 19 classrooms, 3 of which are bilingual.

The school is organsied on a Tuakana Teina basis which sees senior and junior classes spread throughout the school where older ones care for younger ones, share work and support each other with their learning. Children of all ages are encouraged to play together in any area of the school. Tuakana Teina has proven to be a contributor to a very "positive and calm atmosphere in the playground" (ERO December 2006).
